Newsletter: Searching for two missing girls
We got two very different results.
This year’s Black History Month theme in the UK is ‘honouring our communities’. But what does that mean for Black women and girls in terms of their protection and support?

In the space of a week, two teenage girls went missing in the UK. Amuche, 13, from London, disappeared on 23 September. Kayla, from Lancashire, went missing on Sunday 27 Sept.
I learned about Amuche’s disappearance through a social media post shared by Sistah Space, a community organization. Along with For Black Women UK, they have become a must-follow for me, as they are often the only voices amplifying a missing person’s case during the critical window when getting the word out can help find them.
News of both disappearances are heartbreaking. We have seen posts online saying Amuche has been found safe and well, but we haven't been able to confirm this. As of writing, we’re still hoping to hear of Kayla’s safe return.
What I found striking was that when searching for updates on these two lost girls, I found no news stories reported for Amuche, but around eight for Kayla. Amuche is black. Kayla is white.
